In Pikmin 3, the boulders shot from them realistically roll down hills and slopes, and can even change direction if the ground allows for it. They can, however, be destroyed by landing a Purple Pikmin on top of one. The boulders that are shot out cannot be petrified. Moving out of the way before the rock hits him, the rock will hit the enemy that was behind him. They can be manipulated into destroying other creatures by making them spit boulders at a Captain when he is beside or behind an enemy. Because Cannon Larvae lack the thick exoskeletal armor of the adult beetles, these enemies are vulnerable all over their body, but can buck Pikmin off when attacked. Like the adults, they attack by shooting boulders from their snouts, and have a blowhole on the top of their head, but it is either non-functional or not as powerful, so Pikmin cannot become stuck in it like with the fully grown beetles. Pikmin 3 also introduces a variant called the Arctic Cannon Larva. A related species called Decorated Cannon Beetles exists in larval form, but the adults are never seen in any of the games. They come in two types: one that walks around and one that burrows out of the ground and cannot be stunned with Purple Pikmin Armored Cannon Larvae will only appear in the Piklopedia if the version that does not burrow out of the ground has been killed. It acts the same as the Armored Cannon Beetle, but turns and spits at a faster rate and has much less health. They resemble large larvae with some of the similar Armored Cannon Beetle eyes and mouth. Being able to land pikmin precisely and whistling back only pikmin who are idle or in danger is critical for having a no-death play-through or mission mode hi-scores.Armored Cannon Larva ( フタクチドックリ) (referred as Armored Cannon Beetle Larva in Pikmin 2) are enemies found Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 3. In general, Pikmin 3's enemies are much easier if you use the wiimote + nunchuck for precision aiming. If they eat the pikmin, it won't be spared when the bomb explodes.īomb rocks are definitely the way to go - in mission mode you will likely always have some available and whiptounges should be priority targets. If they eat the bomb, they'll still die, but no surrounding enemies will be hurt. For whiptounges that are awake, just be aware that they can eat the bomb and/or the pikmin trying to deliver it. Even a squad of ~15 blue/yellow pikmin can safely take down a whiptounge with this method (it will be a tad slow).Ī single bomb rock will do the trick. Keeping your target stationary and facing the same direction will make it much easier to accurately place your pikmin. Being in front of your target will limit the scattering of your pikmin when he shakes them off - most are thrown forward. Throwing rock pikmin once the eating animation starts - don't need a large number, but extras allow you to fire away earlier and not be as precise with the whistling.Īpproach from the front and aim for the weak point, the eyes. This is hard to achieve on the high HP bulborbs. Your options for killing all variety of Bulborb:Ĭharging from behind with a squad of pikmin strong enough to kill in before the "wake up" animation finishes. Like most of Pikmin 3's enemies, you can save the pikmin that are almost being eaten by dealing enough damage to the enemy before the eating animation finishes.
